Panama Update Week 2 – 2010

            This week was a week of firsts.  We took our first bus trip on Wednesday to the other side of the city; which was an interesting experience to say the least.  We took our first taxi ride to the mall area by ourselves and I ordered pizza over the phone!  I know it may not sound like much but I felt a huge sense of accomplishment.  I have learned enough Spanish to actually function on my own, without having to call one of our friends to get us a taxi.  It has helped a great deal that Lindy has a very adventurous spirit and talks me into these things.  I doubt I would be attempting them on my own.  Of course she has warned me that her desire for adventure knows little fear, so I will need to use caution at times when she makes suggestions.

Last week the Wycliffe missionary that is translating the Old Testament into Kuna called me.  She asked if I would be willing to help them format I and II Samuel to get it ready for printing.  I was ecstatic!  Even though it is a minuscule part in the production of the whole Old Testament, I am overwhelmed at the possibility of playing a minor role in the word of God being printed in the Kuna language. 

            We met with our team on Saturday.  They traveled to Diwarsikua on December 26^th.  They told us that the chiefs have asked them to find a permanent pastor to stay in the village.  There is one pastor from the islands that is interested in going but he has to get permission from the leaders over all the churches in the islands to leave his post.  We would greatly appreciate your prayers for this situation.  We need someone to go and lead these new believers.  They are so hungry to learn more and desperately need a mature man of God to lead them.

            We also discussed the trip we have planned for March, which will include a team from the states.  Tentatively we have set the dates for March 13^th-21^st.   We will be traveling to Diwarsikua doing some doctrinal and evangelistic training.  We will also be traveling to the new village of Kapanti that we have been praying about for over a year.  This past summer we had some GA groups from the Golden Triangle area collect first aid supplies to bring into the village.  We are praying about finding a doctor or a nurse to go in and do first aid training.  I know there are some of you that would love to collect items for us, but right now we have four suitcases full of supplies.  Unless we have more people commit to come on the trip we really cannot bring anymore items.  It is possible to buy them here in Panama.  We are also planning on buying some disinfectant soap to bring with us and possibly some medications.  If you would like to make a donation for that or school supplies you can send it to the following address:

            We are also still working on the team here getting their non-profit status.  This will help them to raise their own funds and possibly getting them closer to becoming more self sufficient.  They have contacted a lawyer that will do the entire process for $800.  They need an additional $100 for the down payment of $400 for the lawyer to get started.  Please pray that God meets that need for them.

Esta semana fue una semana de primero. Tomamos nuestro primer viaje de autobús el miércoles al otro lado de la ciudad; que fue una experiencia interesante por no decir otra cosa. ¡Tomamos nuestro primer paseo de taxi al área del paseo por nosotros mismos y yo ordené pizza por teléfono! Sé que no puede sonar como mucho pero sentía un sentido inmenso de logro. He aprendido que suficiente español a funcionar realmente en mi propio, sin tener que llamar uno de nuestros amigos a conseguirnos un taxi. Ha ayudado mucho que Lindy tiene un espíritu muy aventurero y me habla en estas cosas. Dudo que yo los esté procurando solo. Por supuesto ella me ha advertido que su deseo para la aventura sabe temor pequeño, así que deberé utilizar cuidado a veces cuando ella hace sugerencias.

La semana pasada el misionero de Wycliffe que traduce el Antiguo Testamento en Kuna me llamó. Ella preguntó si estaría dispuesto a ayudarlos formatear I y II Samuel conseguirlo se prepara para imprimir. ¡Estuve extático! Aunque sea una parte minúscula en la producción del Antiguo Testamento entero, yo soy agobiado en la posibilidad de jugar un papel secundario en la palabra de Dios para ser impreso en el idioma de Kuna.

Encontramos con nuestro equipo el sabado. Ellos viajaron a Diwarsikua en el 26 de diciembre. Ellos nos dijeron que los jefes los han pedido que encontraran que un permanente pastor para permanecer en la aldea. Hay un pastor de las islas que es interesada entrante pero él tiene que conseguir permiso de los líderes más de todas las iglesias en las islas para dejar su poste. Apreciaríamos mucho sus oraciones para esta situación. Necesitamos alguien ir y dirigir a estos nuevos creyentes. Ellos son tan hambrientos aprender más y necesitar desesperadamente a un hombre maduro de Dios para dirigirlos.

Nosotros también discutimos el viaje que hemos planeado para marzo, que incluirá un equipo de los estados. Tentativamente hemos puesto las fechas para marzo 13th-21st. Estaremos viajando a hacer de Diwarsikua algún doctrinal y la instrucción de evangelistic. Nosotros también estaremos viajando a la nueva aldea de Kapanti que hemos estado orando acerca de para sobre un año. Esto verano pasado nosotros tuvimos algunos grupos de GA de los suministros Dorados de primeros auxilios de reunir de área de Triángulo para traer en la aldea. Oramos acerca de encontrar un médico o a una enfermera para entrar y ayudar primero la instrucción.
