Panama Update – Week 8 – 2010

Well it’s not exactly week eight, I skipped last week because it was a little hectic.  Max flew in last Wednesday.  We had a meeting with our Panama team Thursday night and they all spent the night here; which was pretty interesting working out where everyone was going to sleep.  Hortenciano offered to sleep on the concrete porch behind the house because we only had one hammock.  They woke up early Friday morning and traveled to Diwarsikua for the weekend.  We had a meeting last night when they came back to the city.  They shared several encouraging testimonies which I will be putting together into a newsletter to send out to everybody. 

This week Max and I were able to meet with a few people about some opportunities for us here in Panama.  Pastor Roosevelt’s wife, Inez, is now president over the Baptist women’s group here in the city.  She has asked me to speak at a seminar they are having for the women in April.  She has also asked me to go with them to a conference to one of the islands in July.  We also meet with the leadership of the Kuna young people’s group.  This group organizes ministry opportunities for all the young Kuna believers in the city.  We are planning to have a meeting with them in a few weeks to discuss in more detail how we can get involved with their ministry and also how they can get involved with what we are doing in the Bayano area. 

I have mentioned in my past updates that I needed to go to Costa Rica to get a new stamp in my passport.  I had discussed this with Deinis, the woman working with the PAAM ministry I am trying to get involved with here.  She told me that she is going on a mission trip to Costa Rica March 31^st – April 5^th.  She graciously asked me to go with them.  So I have decided that would be an amazing opportunity for me not only to get to know some of the PAAM ministry team but also to travel to another country.  I am thanking God for providing such an amazing answer to my prayer for the Visa situation. 

One thing that I have also been praying about is transportation.  The past few days Max rented a car and we were able to accomplish so much in such a short time I realized that the need for me to buy a car became increasingly apparent.  I have been very limited in what I can do and how I can help here without it.  I very rarely come right out and ask people for money.  I usually just mention the need and leave the rest up to the individual.  However, this is one time when I see the need is very pressing.  I believe that I will need to raise between $8000 - $10,000 to buy a dependable used car.  I am asking you personally to consider giving into a car fund for me.  I know this sounds like a great deal of money, but if each one of you gave just a little I believe it would not take long for me to raise this money.  I am trusting in God’s provision but sometimes it is necessary to just come right out and ask God’s people for help.

I also have a few other prayer request:

·         Apartment in the Balboa/Clayton area (closer to church and training ministry I want to help with)

·         Transportation (small car)

·         Full time partner (I believe I will need someone if I am to stay here full time.)

·         Opportunities and Purpose

·         Meeting with the Young people’s group

·         Mission trip to Costa Rica March 31 – April 5

·         Speaking at women’s meeting April 17

Bien no es exactamente semana ocho, yo me salté la semana pasada porque fui un poco agitado. Max voló en el Miercoles pasado. Tuvimos una reunión con nuestro equipo de Panamá la noche del jueves y todos pasaron la noche aquí; que fue trabajar bastante interesante fuera donde todos se dormían. Hortenciano ofreció dormir en el porche concreto atrás de la casa porque nosotros sólo tuvimos una hamaca. Ellos se despertaron temprano el viernes por la mañana y viajaron a Diwarsikua por el fin de semana. Tuvimos una reunión anoche cuando ellos regresaron a la ciudad. Ellos compartieron varios alentadores testimonios que seré puesto juntos en un boletín para mandar a todos. Esta semana Max y yo pudieron encontrar con unas pocas personas acerca de algunas oportunidades para nosotros aquí en Panamá. La mujer del pastor Roosevelt, Inez, es ahora presidente sobre el grupo de las mujeres Bautista aquí en la ciudad. Ella me ha pedido que hablara en un seminario que ellos tienen para las mujeres en abril. Ella también me ha pedido que fuera con ellos a una conferencia a uno de las islas en julio. Nosotros también encontramos con el liderazgo del grupo de los jóvenes de Kuna. Este grupo organiza oportunidades de ministerio para todos los jóvenes creyentes de Kuna en la ciudad. Planeamos tener una reunión con ellos en unas pocas semanas para discutir en más detalle cómo podemos meternos con su ministerio y también cómo ellos pueden meterse con lo que hacemos en el área de Bayano. He mencionado en mis actualizaciones de pasado que debí ir a Costa Rica para conseguir una nueva estampilla en mi pasaporte. Había discutido esto con Deinis, la mujer que trabaja con el ministerio de PAAM que trato de meterse con aquí. Ella me dijo que ella pasa un viaje de misión al 31 de Costa Rica marzo – 5 de abril. Ella amablemente me pidió que fuera con ellos. Tan he decidido que eso sería una oportunidad asombrosa para mí no sólo conseguir para saber que parte del equipo del ministerio de PAAM pero también viajar a otro país. Doy gracias a Dios para proporcionar tal asombrar respuesta a mi oración para la situación de Visa. Una cosa que yo también he estado orando acerca de es transporte. Los días pasados Max alquiló un carro y nosotros pudimos lograr tanto en un tiempo tan corto yo me di cuenta de que la necesidad para mí comprar un carro llegó a ser cada vez más aparente. He sido limitado muy en lo que puedo hacer y cómo puedo ayudar aquí sin ello. Yo muy vengo raramente el derecho fuera y pregunto a personas para el dinero. Yo generalmente menciono justo la necesidad y salgo el descansa al individuo. Sin embargo, esto es un tiempo cuando veo la necesidad aprieta muy. Creo que deberé levantar entre $8000 - $10.000 en comprar un carro utilizado fiable. Yo le pregunto considerar personalmente dar en un fondo de carro para mí. Sé que esto suena como mucho dinero, pero si cada alguno de ustedes dio justo un poco creo que no tomaría desea para mí recaudar dinero. Confío en la provisión de Dios pero a veces soy necesario para venir justo el derecho fuera y preguntar las personas de Dios para la ayuda.

Yo también tengo otra poca petición de oración:

•        Departamento en el área de Balboa/Clayton (más cerca al ministerio de la iglesia y la instrucción que quiero ayudar con)

•        Transporte (pequeño carro)

•        socio Lleno de tiempo (creo que necesitaré alguien si soy de permanecer tiempo aquí lleno). • Oportunidades y Propósito

•        Hablando en abril de la reunión de mujeres 17 aprecio mucho que sus oraciones y apoyo. Oro para las bendiciones de Dios en usted y en sus familias.
